Cold Sugarbowl and Diamond Peak
Uncle Josh stayed overnight in San Jose, so we hit the road at around 6:15AM. Hit a bit of traffic, and made a pitstop for breakfast, but still got to Sugar Bowl by 10AM. Parking lot at Judah wasn't too crowded for such a late arrival. Used the free Icer Air tickets from Snowbomb. Noah and I went wireless hunting for the Exwire network that was supposed to be available in the Judah Lodge, but even after finding a signal, couldn't get access. Luckily the Cingular signal was still good and I was able to check my e-mail and find out that my noon meeting (that I needed wireless for) had been cancelled.
Anyways, I finally hit the snow around 11:30AM. Jabra X-Jam was happening off of Judah, so we much of the terrain there was closed to the public.
There was supposed to be a storm, but mainly it was just cold. The sun was out early on, but then it got cloudy, and there was some light snow.I think they got about 1-2 inches total. Coverage was thin off-trail, but fairly good on the main trails. Still, lots of hardpack around. Same situation off of Jerome, although much better coverage.
Took a lot of breaks, but finally got out to Lincoln and tooks some runs down Rahlves Run, which was in good shape thanks to good grooming. Glady made it back out again at the end of the day for a few last runs off of Jerome. I found a short small stash of maybe 3-4 inches of powder that was a pleasant surprise.
We then went to "Head North" to rent some skis for Noah! Smallest boots didn't quite fit, but he could walk around in them. Also got some wee skis. But he was more excited about the foosball table they had. Then to Porters Incline where I rented skis and we dropped off our boards for a tune. (Tahoe Card)
Free room at the Biltmore -- the suite in 407, similar to 408, but non-smoking. Dinner at the cafe. They really need to hire more help.
Next morning Diamond Peak. Super super cold -- lake effect snow (?). Good conditions though. But I was on skis, so not confident enough to fly down the steeper stuff. Whole different sets of muscles than snowboarding. Exhausting.
Too cold in the morning for Noah to go out. Eventually the sun came out, and Noah got on skis. Five minutes of fun. We think he had fun. He now has some small goggles, which he ended up not using that day.
Super tired -- Noah's cold got worse. Stopped way early -- 2:20PM. Extra-tired from being on skis instead of a board. Might try again if I can get Calvin's boots and skis. But not on a powder day.
