Kirkwood in October
An unusually early snowstorm let us hit the slopes even before the traditional Halloween opening at Boreal. This weekend Kirkwood was open (mainly the lower mountain) for $20/person.I had intended to use the passes we got at the Adventure Expo, but was told they weren't being accepted for this special "pre-season" day. (This later proved to be wrong, and Jim made sure the tickets were honored from here on out.)
Anyways though, I guess since I looked so bummed or something, the ticket seller let me pay only $10 apiece.
Oh, so the snow? Amazingly good for October! It was cold, so it didn't slush up that much at all.

Adventure Expo
Went to the Adventures in Travel Expo in San Mateo - $10 apiece got us an early season SugarWood (Sugar
Bowl or Kirkwood) ticket from Snowbomb.
Lots of the Tahoe resorts were there, including Sugar Bowl and their giant snow globe. Picked up info from some of them, although not everybody had updated brochures, much less lift ticket price info.
Visited booths inviting us to venture to exotic locales like Mongolia, Africa, the former Soviet Republic (snowboarding!), and New Zealand (hobbits!). Alas, it'll probably be a little while before Noah can travel that far.
Glady tried their indoor scuba pool. The water was very warm, she reported.
